Sooooooooo, has anyone seen the new Star Trek movie? I have, and I loooooooove it! I had no idea how much I missed having some form of Star Trek in my life! And I totally fell in love with Spock all over again!

Me thinks I'm gonna go see this movie again a time or two, before I have to spend the next six months pining for the dvd!

I loved it too! I'm already looking forward to sequels.

And, in one movie, they managed to give Spock the humanity that the original series took for-freakin'-ever to establish, between the parts about his mother and the Uhura parts. It's like fanfic with really good explosions.

AHAHAHAHA! You're soooo right, mari! I looooooved how they did that. I was also very touched at the last scene between the two Spocks. I couldn't help but think how amazingly Spock has grown over the years, and seeing Nimoy's older Spock briefly converse with Quinto's younger Spock was just lovely. And OMG, I loved the parts with Uhura, and the sweet connection he had with her and his mother....

OMG, fellow Trekkies!

I have seen this movie twice, I'm already pining for the dvd, and I'm so ready for more movies with this cast. I'm majorly infatuated with Simon Pegg, so there really wasn't enough Scotty for me, lol. Maybe next time. Spock and Uhura were so cute together. I've always been partial to Spock, so to see him not trying so hard to not be human was awesome. Zachary Quinto was just about perfect as Spock. I know lots of diehard fans immediately go on the defensive with "re-imaginings" of movies or TV shows (hell, I'll admit when I heard about Smallville "re-telling" the Superman story, I was a naysayer -- but I just finished my 8th season of watching that show, so...), but I think the creative team was very clever in the way they did it -- changing little things without changing what
makes those seven characters
Star Trek to the fans, imo, while introducing them to a new audience. And while I was unsure of Karl Urban as Bones, he captured the cantankerous nature that is Dr. McCoy, lol. The only other thing I've ever seen Chris Pine (he's got beautiful eyes) in is that Lindsay Lohan movie
Just My Luck, but he's got skills as Kirk.
I'm so ready for the next one... hopefully with more Simon Pegg/Scotty.

Sonja, have you heard about Simon Pegg's new movie,
Paul?
AV Club has details on cast but the plot summary is "Pegg and Frost, who wrote the script, will play two science-fiction fanatics on a road trip whose conspiracy dreams come true when they trek to Area 51 and encounter the title character, an escaped alien." Considering this is one of my many fantasies, I'm very much looking forward to it!
Sonja!

Awww, you looooove Simon Pegg? That's sweet! He was an awesome Scotty, and I'm sure there will be more of him in the next movie!
As for Karl Urban, wasn't he just AMAZING as Bones? I swear he was channeling DeForest Kelley! And I never knew Karl is from New Zealand. He did so well with McCoy's country accent that I had no idea the actor is from another country.
And yessssssss... Zachary Quinto is a lovely choice as Spock. Some of the ladies in my office were appalled that he had been chosen, as they only know him as the bad guy on Heroes, apparently. But ZQ is Leonard Nimoy-approved, so that works for me!

And he really does make a fabulous Spock!

I hadn't heard about that, Mari. Thanks for the link. I'm going to check that out right now. Pegg and Frost loose in Area 51... I've got to see that!
Oh, yeah, Steph... I
looooove me some Simon Pegg.

You know what? I did know that Karl Urban was from NZ because he was on a few episodes of Hercules and Xena (as Cupid and Caesar, no less, lol), which, coincidentally, the Star Trek writers, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, also wrote for.
I don't even watch Heroes, so I had to look ZQ up to find out about him when he was cast as Spock. He was spot-on, imo. Absolutely love the way Spock told off the Vulcan Science Minister. We should all be so cool.
And while I was at imdb.com trying to find out what W. Morgan Sheppard's character was called (Vulcan Science Minister, lol), I saw that today is Karl Urban's birthday. Happy Birthday, Karl!!

I liked the old Star Trek movies (hadn't really watched much of the TV series, but knew the basics) but I've gotta say that new Star Trek movie was the BEST movie I've seen in a while!!! I've always loved Spock's character, but I've totally fallen in love with him even more. Agree with Sonja...that part when he told the science minister off was so cool, and some of the peeps in the theater were quietly cheering him.
The movie was quite funny in parts and I loved that. I remember chuckling when Checkov (sp?) tried to say Vulcan....and it was Wulcan. LOL
Star Trek holds a special place in my heart, it was in Star Trek fandom that I meet some of my best friends.
I run a fan club for both George Takei and Armin Shimerman (DS9's Quark)
Love, love, love Simon Pegg and he has done Jimmy Doohan proud as Scotty.

*le sigh* I wholeheartedly agree, Kathy.
My cousin was in town for her brother's and my niece's high school graduations, so we finally got to see Star Trek together. In fact, I just got back from the theater. That makes three for me -- I've never paid to see a movie this many times. I'm going to be completely useless when I get this on dvd, lol.
